We shouldn’t have to opt out… it should be opt-in.

It’s in the terms when you set up the app. Most folks don’t read through the agreements.

So if you never use the app, are you automatically opted out?

Agree to the terms and you’re in, but you can always opt out later.

Classic forced opt-in… shouldn’t even be allowed.

The app is just part of it. The car’s software collects data too, so you need to manage settings there if you want to stop it.

Drive Pulse doesn’t send data to insurers, just shows you info. Check the privacy settings or call to confirm.

Insure Connect does.

Some GM dealerships turn on these features before selling the car, possibly to get kickbacks. Not sure if Toyota does the same, but be aware.

Opted out when I got my Tacoma in 2021, but Progressive still got my driving data… guess they’re still collecting it.

Most folks just click through and end up opting in without realizing. Dealers are sneaky too… they set up the phone and hit accept on everything fast because they get commission for it.

My dealer activated several things before I even got the car. When I complained, Toyota didn’t care. It’s not just the dealers, it’s the whole system.

It is opt-in. You’d have had to agree during setup.

How do you opt out?

I did it through the Toyota app.

I did it through the Toyota app.

Does that affect anything else? Like Sirius or navigation?

It’ll stop some updates, and if you disable the sim, you lose your microphone. They say they don’t take audio, just pictures, but still feels off to me.

Probably front camera views, tracking where you drive.

Everything else should still work fine.

Good call! You’ll be redirected to a page to fill out a form to opt out. It’s all compliance stuff based on privacy laws.

Go to the Toyota app > Profile > Account > Data Privacy Portal > Insure Connect > Decline.

I checked their privacy info, and they claim not to do this. Any sources?
