Toyota sharing your data with insurance companies… anyone else notice?

I checked their privacy info, and they claim not to do this. Any sources?

If you’re in the Toyota Connect, it tracks your driving habits like braking, acceleration, etc. I opted out but still get emails saying I’m a good driver.

Where are you located? I’m in Canada, and the site says they don’t share data with others. Looks like the US might be different.

In Canada, data from Drive Pulse is only for the owner, not shared unless you consent. I still don’t trust it and haven’t enabled it.

Yep, Canada’s not sharing it, but we still see Drive Pulse data ourselves.

Did you opt in at any point? I never opted into Insure Connect and don’t get emails. You might want to double-check with Toyota.

I opted out, but thanks for the info.

It’s not Toyota; it’s the dealerships and their software.

I read the terms too and got the same feeling. Unless we agreed to something by accepting terms. Or is this just a rumor?

Probably an assumption because of what GM is doing, but I can confirm many dealers do sell data. And when you get a car loan, banks also resell that info. It’s everywhere.

My state sells DMV data straight up… you don’t opt in, and you can’t opt out.

Most places are like that, except maybe California.

Do they collect info on hard stops or speed?

Not generally, but the car can. Usually, they just track miles for service purposes.

Funny seeing the downvotes… guess people don’t like hearing it.

Probably because it’s not matching what the app says.

The app has to say that legally. Critical thinking, folks!

That’s opt-in and not available on every car.

I have two 2021 Toyotas and didn’t know about it until it was in the news. Didn’t knowingly opt-in.
