Transmission Failed on My 4th Gen Tacoma… Anyone Else Dealing with This?

I’d be furious. I’d tell them to take it back and get me a 3rd Gen replacement.

You’d probably be super upset too if that happened, lol.

Tell them you want a 3rd Gen replacement and a million dollars.

What’s with the downvotes? My truck’s transmission failed at 650 miles. These new trucks clearly have problems.

At least your transmission completely failed so they’ll replace it. Mine just jumps and sticks between 1st and 3rd. Not all the time, but it’s annoying. I’ve taken it in twice, but they haven’t fixed it. I’m worried it’ll break down on a road trip.

@Finian
I got lucky that they could see the issue and fix it. It’s definitely worth pushing them to fix it since it sounds like your truck is doing the same thing.

@Finian
Yep, that’s always the way it goes. The car acts up when you’re driving, but as soon as you take it to the shop, it’s fine. I had that happen with a few Audis.

I’m surprised Toyota hasn’t issued a major recall. With transmissions failing like that, it’s dangerous. They need to stop production and fix it. Totally unacceptable, especially for a $50,000 truck.

Apparently, they have issued a recall. That’s why the TSB only applies to certain trucks made before a specific date.

Sorry this happened to you. I’m on the TSB VIN list too, so fingers crossed nothing goes wrong. What rental did Toyota give you, if you don’t mind sharing?

Time to trade it for a 3rd Gen, the torquey 5-speed V6 is amazing!
