Truck won't start... Security light flashing?

I started my truck, then accidentally turned it off, and now it won’t start again. The security light is flashing. I think it activated the security system? Google says that might be the issue. Any ideas on how to fix this? FYI, it’s a 2017 Toyota Tacoma.

Yeah, sounds like the anti-theft system got triggered. Have you tried resetting it?

Not yet… how do I reset it?

Oh, it’s pretty easy. Just put the key in the ignition, turn it to ‘ON’ without starting the engine, and wait like 10 minutes. The security light should stop flashing or go solid. After that, turn it off, wait 20 seconds, and try starting it again.

Got it! I’ll give it a try. Hopefully that works!

I had this happen with my Tacoma last year. The anti-theft system is super sensitive. Let us know if the reset trick works for you.

Will do! Fingers crossed.

If that doesn’t work, you might want to check the battery too. I had a similar issue, and my battery was the culprit. It couldn’t hold a charge, which triggered the security system.

Yeah, weak battery can definitely mess with the electronics. But the security light is usually the first sign it’s anti-theft related.

For sure, but it’s always good to rule out the battery just in case!

FYI, if the reset doesn’t work after a few tries, you might need to take it to a dealership. Sometimes the system can get stuck in a loop.

Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully, I won’t need to do that.

Did you ever get it sorted out?

Yeah, AAA came out and helped me! They did something similar to what you guys suggested.
