I am not a car enthusiast by any means, but I want to make my car sound sick and more aggressive. I have a 2022 Avalon XLE. I understand that this car isn’t the type to have a mean sound, but it’s my first car purchase and I want to add some character to it. I’m mainly thinking about a muffler and resonator delete — maybe just one resonator delete, not sure yet, or a muffler delete and add a Black Widow resonator. I don’t want to add anything to my engine, just exhaust. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Consider a cold air intake. A muffler delete will make it loud and annoying. I would definitely keep some form of resonator if you plan on highway cruising; droning gets old fast. Modifying the resonator is a better option than a muffler delete. People have modified this motor for years, so look up some setups and see what you like.

Solid answer.
In my opinion, the TRD factory exhaust sounds mediocre at best. The V6 just doesn’t have a great exhaust tone. Droning is the perfect word for it.
OP, you ever hear a car go by with modified exhaust and it sounds awful? That’s because they sawed off their resonators/mufflers for unrefined noise. It’s annoying, constant, and you won’t be able to enjoy music or have a conversation without yelling.
@Terry
Nothing has been done to my Avalon — it’s completely stock.
I recommend a D3 tuner with an intake and Alpine exhaust. I love my setup.
I haven’t done anything to my 2014, but I did install a K&N intake and a cheap eBay exhaust on my 2014 Camry years ago. The intake was definitely worth it, but the exhaust was a waste of money in my opinion.
If you’re going to modify it, avoid changes while it’s still under factory warranty. I know your car is about 3 years old, but it’s important to check mileage and any recalls that may not have been addressed. Consider this before making modifications.
@Aldrin
Yeah, true. My bad. I got the car for 28k with no down payment, and it had 28k miles. Now it’s currently at 33k miles.

Yeah, so it has some warranty left. It’s probably best to hold off on modifications for now.
@Aldrin
I appreciate the input
Whatever you do, KEEP the resonator.
If you do any exhaust deletes, it may trip codes and could impact performance. You should have considered a TRD for a different exhaust sound. Your car is only 3 years old, why mess with it? They’re great cars as is. I’m not sure why people buy the Avalon intending to turn it into a sports car. If you want to modify, that’s your choice, but think carefully before jumping in.
@Aldrin
I looked for TRDs, man, but couldn’t find any for a while. I got this car on a New Year’s sale, so I had to pull the trigger before it was gone. I love my car, don’t get me wrong, but I’d like to add some aftermarket parts without messing it up too much. I’ve read a lot of similar thoughts as yours, and I’m still debating on making changes.
