I was driving and something felt off right when I started moving, then bam, bam. A friendly guy towed me to a parking lot. From there, I got towed to a shop I trust. I was about to get on the highway, so I’m glad this happened at 30mph and not 60mph. I had just been to a shop a few weeks ago for an exhaust, and they told me the u-joints were fine.
Those u-joints have been bad for a while. Whoever told you they were fine didn’t check them properly.

Yeah, definitely don’t trust an exhaust shop when it comes to u-joints.
Just unbolt what’s left, put it in 4H, and drive your FWD truck until the new u-joints arrive.

That’s the front driveshaft too.

Haha, I was about to say, this sounds like the full 4wd Bluetooth setup…
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Oh, I should try that, maybe I’ll get power back.

Blowing on it would probably help too.

Maybe unplug it, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
Just put it in 4hi and you should be fine.
I’ve got a ton of miles on my drivetrain, now I’m worried, like almost half a million miles!

If you’re worried, u-joints are only about $25 each and you can replace all of them in about an hour.
Had the same thing happen to me recently.
Had a similar issue a few years back, my 2007 Tacoma did the same thing.
What year and mileage is yours? I was looking at the maintenance schedule for my 2024, and it mentions retorquing the propeller shaft pretty often. Looks like I need to take that seriously!

2009 with 167k miles.
@Sidney
Yikes, more fuel for my nightmares. I just ordered mine three days ago.
As long as no other parts of the driveshaft are damaged, you should be able to replace the u-joints. You might want to get a driveshaft shop to rebalance it just in case though. I had some clicking from a dead stop and it turned out the u-joint had failed.
