What is the average mpg you get on your 2023 Toyota Rav4?

Hey everyone, I’ve been driving my 2023 Rav4 XLE for six months now, and I’m averaging about 28 mpg. A friend of mine, who bought the same car around the same time, is getting closer to 32 mpg. I’m curious to know what numbers others are seeing on their odometer. Thanks for sharing!

Your mpg really depends on driving habits and traffic conditions.

Yeah, and terrain, weather, elevation, fuel type, tires, roof racks, cargo weight, and average trip length all play a role. Honestly, fuel economy varies so much that comparing numbers isn’t always helpful. For what it’s worth, I’ve seen anywhere from 18-45 mpg in my hybrid. Hope that helps!

I get 24.5 mpg in mostly city driving with the 2.5L engine. On the highway, I’ve managed 39 mpg. The difference between city and highway is huge.

I’ve got the same car, and my current tank average is 33.2 mpg. That’s a mix of stop-and-go traffic and some highway driving.

If you’re getting 28 mpg, I’m guessing you have the gas model, not the hybrid. With my hybrid, I usually average over 40 mpg on my commute, which is a mix of highway and traffic. You might want to check if you’re accelerating too quickly or driving uphill a lot.

@Perry
Yeah, that sounds like the gas version. If it’s a hybrid, something’s off or they’re driving mostly uphill highways.

@Perry
I’ve averaged 19-23 mpg on a recent road trip in my hybrid. Loaded up with bikes, a roof box, and driving at 85 mph in freezing weather. So yeah, lots of factors.

I have the same car and average 33 mpg with all-season tires. Switched to winter tires recently and now get 30-31 mpg. Mostly highway miles.

What speed do you usually drive?

I’ve had my Rav4 since August, and my average mpg according to Fuelly is 77.3. The car’s estimate is always optimistic, so I use the app to track real mileage.

Doesn’t count, you’ve got the Prime. Lol.

@Sutton
Still a Rav4 though. :person_shrugging:

I get 26 mpg with my 2.0L gas engine, city driving only.

I get 34 mpg on my hybrid with a heavy foot. Mostly mountain driving, steep grades, and some off-roading.

My 2021 Rav4 Adventure gets 27-28 mpg after an oil change. It’s slightly better than before, but they used 0W-20 instead of 0W-16.

My new 2024 Rav4 AWD gets 24-26 mpg with a 50/50 mix of highway and city driving.

28 mpg seems a bit low. If you’re driving a hybrid on a mix of roads, you should be closer to 40 mpg. Maybe check your driving habits. Hybrids are more efficient when you accelerate gently and keep a steady speed.

I have a 2021 XLE gas model with 28 mpg on 245/65-17 Falken WildPeak tires.

I average exactly 30 mpg, mostly highway driving since my commute is 38 miles with 34 of those on the highway.
