Just curious if anyone here has pushed their Yaris to the limit? I’ve had mine close to 90 mph on the highway with some traffic around, and it felt like it had more to give. But I didn’t want to be reckless and I don’t have a safe spot nearby to really test it. Pretty sure the 1/2 mile drag strip near me is too short for this.
Not saying anyone should speed or drive dangerously, but it would be nice to know what it’s capable of in case I ever find myself in an emergency situation… like trying to outrun a volcano or something crazy like that.
In my experience with small cars like these, 4th gear tops out on revs and 5th runs out of power. Most hit a bit over 100 mph. If you could draft behind a big car like a Hellcat Durango, I bet the Yaris could reach its max speed—probably around 120 mph if you hit top gear and max rpm. Any math whizzes wanna back me up?
Same here… I’ve got an ’08 hatch with the 1.5, and I’ve hit 100 mph a few times and got it up to 115 mph once. Trust me though, you don’t wanna push it—wipe out in one of these and you’re toast.
I have a first-gen Vitz (the Japanese version of the Yaris), and it hits 180 km/h (112 mph) before the limiter kicks in and slows it to 175 km/h (108 mph). It’s an automatic with 4 long gears. Once it reaches 180, it’s at about 5000 rpm, and the limiter won’t let it push further, even though it could probably hit 6200 rpm and 120 mph if it weren’t limited.
I’ve had my 2008 5-speed up to 115 mph on some quiet highways in Colorado. I raced my brother’s 2016 auto Yaris, and mine was just about 1 mph faster at the top.
