I’m in the market for something as reliable and tough as the 1995 Toyota Hilux. I want that same kind of dependability, but I’m not sure what the modern-day equivalent would be. Any ideas?
How about the 2024 Hilux? It’s still a solid choice.
If he’s asking here, he’s probably in the U.S. The Hilux isn’t available here, so maybe think of other options.
Honestly, the newer Hilux models are just as reliable as the older ones. They’re built to last.
Yeah, Toyota still makes the Hilux, just not for the U.S. market.
Didn’t realize the Hilux was still in production. Spent like five minutes searching, and Google kept telling me they stopped making them in 1995.

Five minutes of searching, and you didn’t land on Wikipedia?

Weird, right? Google usually pulls up Wikipedia pages right away.

I’m in the Philippines, and the Hilux is everywhere here. You could technically import one to the U.S., but there are high fees.
The current Hilux doesn’t really have any major downsides. Like most new cars, it has more electronics, so there’s more that could go wrong, and it’s a bit heavier. If you want to keep it simple, an older model might be easier for DIY repairs, plus there’s a huge knowledge base out there.
If you’re after diesel, then yes, the Hilux is still a great pick!
How about a lifted Toyota Camry TRD?
