Saw a chart ranking the worst drivers in America by car brand. Some of it made sense, some didn’t. Subaru was pretty high on the list which threw me off at first, then I remembered all the WRX drivers. Curious what people here think about it.
Pretty sure WRX drivers are boosting that number. Crosstrek and Forester are actually in the top 10 for cheapest insurance according to Consumer Reports.

It’s kinda crazy. Our 2023 Forester Sport cost $40K CAD and insurance is $940 per year with full coverage and depreciation protection. Our 2017 Civic, which was only $21K, cost $1140 a year for the same policy. I thought the dealer was just throwing in a sales pitch when they said Foresters are cheap to insure, but my insurance company backed it up.

Same here! When I traded in my 2015 Forester for a 2024, my insurance dropped $20 a month.

Nice! I swapped my 2009 for a 2015 this week and my insurance barely changed — $66 to $69 a month.
@Kade
Solid deal.

Funny, my 18 Forester made my insurance jump $80!

That’s unusual. What was your old car? I’ve been with Progressive for 18 years with no accidents so my rate is decent. Plus my 2024 has more safety stuff than my 2015 did.
@Landyn
I had State Farm for 12 years with a 2013 Corolla in Texas. Paid $60 a month full coverage. Moved to WA in 2021, got the Forester and it jumped to $80. Moved back to TX last year and it hit $160, then $165. Switched to Texas Farm Bureau and now it’s $143. No accidents or tickets since I started driving at 18.
@TundraTitans4
That’s wild. Not as bad as a guy I met at a diner — had one accident 3 years ago and can’t find insurance under $400 a month. Could be worse lol.
@Cairo
Interesting. I have a WRX and my wife has a Forester, both 2014s, but my insurance is cheaper. I think they logged it as an Impreza.
@Cairo
Civics get stolen a lot, which drives up the insurance. That’s why I ended up with an Accord V6 instead of a base Civic. Cheaper insurance and a better car.

My insurance agent said some companies just count total crashes per model instead of crashes per car on the road. Since Civics are everywhere, their rates go up.

Got an old beat-up Forester and my premiums are super low. No accidents in years. That probably helps.

Driving a ‘17 FXT, insurance with full coverage was $560 a month. Went with liability plus a bit extra for injuries, now paying $214. Just got a quote for $130 after a clean year. Still kinda high for my record though.

As a WRX driver, I feel attacked just kidding. My wife drives a Forester Sport, and I drive my WRX in a way that gets better MPG than her, so I’m not the problem here lol.
This chart has been called out already. The data and the chart are both bad. Doesn’t really prove anything. No, Tesla, Subaru, and Ram drivers don't have the most accidents

People just wanted to believe it, especially the Tesla part.

As soon as I saw Saturn, Pontiac, and Mercury at the bottom I knew it was garbage data. Not many of those cars are even left.
@Arlen
That’s because all the bad drivers already wrecked them and sent them to the junkyard. Only the careful ones still have them on the road.
