Who here has a Tacoma even though they don’t really *need* a truck?

I’m thinking of getting a new vehicle, and I’ve been pretty set on the 2024 Tacoma for the last year. Now that I’m ready, I keep going back and forth on it. I know I don’t need it, but I want it. I just like the way it looks and the feel of it, honestly. I’d take it out on some fire roads with my Aussie, but let’s face it, other 4WD vehicles could do that too.

I’m also looking at the 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness, which seems more practical. I even test-drove it, but then I spotted a Tacoma on the road and couldn’t stop staring. :laughing:

Anyone else have a Tacoma just because they wanted one, even if they don’t really need a truck? Just looking for some justification here!

Honestly, very few people need a truck. It’s all about what you want and shaping your life around it. Trucks are about the lifestyle!

Totally agree with this! Shaping your life around the truck lifestyle is exactly why I WANTED mine.

@TacomaTales
Same here. Didn’t need one, but having a truck makes things like hauling bikes and dogs a lot easier.

@TacomaTales
I’ve had a truck since 1990, and I can’t imagine life without one.

I asked myself one simple question: Am I going to haul people or stuff more often? So yeah, I bought a truck.

You could rent a truck for $20 at Menards, but I have mine to avoid paying that 4-5 times a year. Plus, it’s way more fun to drive.

@Leighton
Exactly, same here. It just made sense.

@Leighton
I get it! I almost did the same but ended up buying a truck so I don’t have to deal with rentals.

Having certain capabilities makes you think you need them. It’s funny how that works.

@Tal
Yeah, but at the end of the day, it’s still a want. Just a very persistent one!

True, but it feels like a need sometimes! :rofl:

Well said! I didn’t really need a Tacoma in college, but I thought it looked cool. Fast forward 12 years, and I’ve got off-roading groups, camping trips, and a ton of hobbies I wouldn’t have without my truck.

It’s funny how those “wants” lead to a whole lifestyle change. My Toyota has seriously taken me places I wouldn’t have explored otherwise.

Haha, that’s awesome! I love how it turned into a whole lifestyle for you.

Trust me, you’ll end up using the bed way more than you think.

Mainly for moving friends who suddenly reappear when they need to haul stuff! :laughing:

Lol, that’s the truth! Trucks attract moving requests like magnets.

I got a truck for garbage hauls and so I wouldn’t need a work table in my garage. Whatever your reason is, just get what makes you happy!

I don’t need a truck every day, but it’s awesome to have one when you need it. Like, when your ex dumps you, and you have to move everything out in a hurry. That’s what convinced me to get my first Tacoma. Life has been easier ever since.

@Casey
Haha, get a topper, and you’re set, man! Also, getting dumped builds character. :wink:
