Who is actually paying these prices for Tacomas?

These days, if you have a pulse, a decent credit score, and $1k down, banks will finance anything. People are willing to take on huge car payments now.

It’s so frustrating that things are so expensive because people are okay with paying these high prices. Imagine how much cheaper housing, college, or even Tacomas would be if we all just said ‘no thanks’ for a while.

Honestly, $35k isn’t that huge of a car note.

@Ronald
It is for that particular vehicle, though.

Yeah, but that’s just how it is these days.

Right, that’s exactly the point.

This has been the ‘new normal’ since COVID. It’s not changing unless people just stop buying … and that’s not happening.

Prices are crazy. I bought my 2016 TRD Sport 6-speed brand new for $33k out the door. Different times, but wow!

That’s wild. I would’ve bought one then too if I hadn’t been in high school :sweat_smile:

@Barrett
Haha, I guess I’m getting old.

I paid about the same for my 2018 brand new. The dealer offered me $30k last year for it on a trade. Having a truck for 6 years and only losing $3k in value shows how nuts the market is right now.

These prices are ridiculous. Maybe I should just get a Ridgeline instead.

Tomorrow I’m getting a TRD Off-Road 2015, rust-free with 87k miles for $29k.

Adjusted for inflation, that’s basically the same price as a base TRD Sport today.

@Kenan
Except my paycheck hasn’t gone up at the same rate!

So it sounds like you just stagnated at your career, but the price is the same.

The struggle is real… but at least I’m done with payments!

It’s people with more money than sense. Some folks just buy new because it’s new, not for the value.

A bit of hope for you, OP: In August, I sold my 2017 Limited in great shape with 49k miles for $32k through Facebook Marketplace. Be patient and keep checking listings.

Thanks for that! Even though it’s close to dealer prices, that feels way more reasonable. I’d rather pay a private seller than a dealer making a profit off the flip.

I paid MSRP and would do it again. Everything’s expensive now, and the 2024 Tacoma gives you more than previous models. Toyota knows people will pay the price, so they keep charging it.
