Why are my ABS, traction control, and brake lights all on

Hey all, so yesterday all these lights came on in my 2015 Toyota Prius: ABS, traction control, and brake lights. No weird noises or braking issues, but I’m trying to figure out what’s causing this. Any advice on what to do or where to start looking? O’Reilly’s couldn’t help because they only scan for check engine codes. Appreciate any tips!

Sounds like there’s an ABS code active. That would explain why the traction control and brake lights are on too.

Makes sense, but what does an ABS code actually mean? Is it something serious?

It usually means there’s an issue with one of the wheel speed sensors. Without them, the traction control turns off.

You need a scanner that can read ABS codes. O’Reilly’s won’t work for that. A repair shop can do it.

Any idea where I can buy an ABS scanner? Or is it better to just go to a shop?

You can get one at most auto parts stores, but they can be pricey. Might be cheaper to have a shop check it.

If the brake pedal feels normal, it’s still okay to drive for now. But yeah, get it checked ASAP.

Good to know, thanks! I was worried it wasn’t safe to drive at all.

You’re fine as long as the brakes feel normal, but keep in mind the ABS and traction control are off.

Dealerships charge a lot for diagnostics. Try a local repair shop—usually cheaper and just as good.

Thanks for the heads up. Dealer quoted me $175/hour, so I’ll look for a local shop instead.

Yeah, try RepairPal or call around for quotes. You might find something way more affordable.
