Why are there so many new gen Land Cruisers for sale on Carmax already

I just did a quick search for a Land Cruiser on Carmax, and it appears that there are a ton of current gen ones already for sale. More so than the older gens. Are folks not liking the new one or are these flips gone wrong? I personally find the new ones pretty charming, and I’d get one if I can afford it. I was looking at older gens mostly because I can accept the mileage in order for the price to be lower.

Toyota is selling a lot more of the new ones, which means there will be more used ones available. The LC200 for example never sold 4,000 units in a single year. In 2024, Toyota sold 29,113 LC250s, which is roughly the same as the LC200 sold for the last 8 years of production.

Wow that’s a pretty striking difference.

More LC250s were sold in the USA in 2024 (around 30,000) than all model years combined of LC200. A dozen LC250s nationwide on Carmax lots (if I’m reading this correctly) is not a flood of used LC250s on the market.

You’re right it’s not a flood. I think I was just surprised to see that relative to the older gens, the new gens are more available. But the difference in sales number makes that reasonable. No wonder Toyota was incentivized to launch LC250.

They are probably still giving top dollar for trade ins considering a lot of those are listed above the new MSRP.
