Why do people have issues with the 6th gen 4-cylinder?

Some of this is just ego. For some reason, people think you need a V6 to be ‘manly.’

Simple solution: buy two of them. That’s 8 cylinders.

I have a 5th-gen that’s still running strong. Not in a rush to replace it, but I’m not going to assume this new one is bad just because it’s different.

Same thing happened when the 5th-gen came out. People whined, then years later said it was the best one ever. History repeats itself.

A turbo 4-cylinder makes sense in something like a RAV4, but in a heavier SUV like the 4Runner? Not so sure. Once people start lifting them and adding bigger tires, we’ll see how it holds up.

Nothing wrong with turbo 4s, but first-year models always have bugs. I’ll wait and see.

Drove one, and honestly, it feels better than the old V6. The hybrid especially moves off the line really well.

It has decent power, but the sound of a small 4-cylinder getting pushed hard in a big SUV is kinda annoying.

Because it needs premium fuel. Any gas savings get canceled out by that.

More moving parts, more potential failures. Also, the hybrid version just adds another layer of complexity.

Yeah, but turbo sounds go PsPsPsttt, so that makes up for it.

Honestly, the first 4Runner had a turbo 4-cylinder, so in a way, this is a return to its roots. The main issue is that people don’t like hearing small engines work hard in big vehicles. But performance-wise, it should be fine.
