Would you trade in a 2017 Limited Crewmax with 185k miles for $14,500?

Thinking about trading in my 2017 Limited Crewmax (4x2) with 185,000 miles—dealer offered $14,500.

In return, I’m looking at a 2016 SR5 TRD Pro with leather seats and only 70,000 miles. It’s a 4x4, out-the-door price is $35,000.

After the trade, I’d still owe $20,500.

Just wondering if that’s fair? Or should I keep mine and fix it up?

$49k total value for a 10-year-old truck? That feels pretty steep.

Personally, no way I’d pay $35k for a 2016. Maybe $30k, tops. Also—do you actually need 4x4 now, or just looking for an upgrade?

Not really. My current truck started squeaking in the front—sounds like ball joint or tie rod. It’s got Monroe quick struts that are giving out. Keeps pulling right even after multiple alignments. Only changed trans fluid once at 150k. Engine still runs fine, just some ratcheting noise. So I’m trying to decide if I should trade it in or just fix what I have. 4x4 would be nice, but I know it costs more to maintain.

Is the 2016 a regular SR5 or an actual TRD Pro? Also, Crew Cab or not? If it’s a clean TRD Pro Crewmax in good shape, that’s not a crazy deal. And $14,500 for your trade seems about right.

Yeah it’s a TRD Pro Crewmax. Clean history, solid condition. It’s got upgraded LED lights, a bed cover, side steps, and an aftermarket Android screen.

@Quince
That sounds like a solid setup. Still, I’d do some comparison shopping—check around your area for similar TRD Pros to see if that $35k price is fair. Also, try getting quotes for your trade from Carvana, CarMax, etc. If someone offers more, see if the dealer will match it. Don’t forget that trading in also helps lower the sales tax—you’d only pay it on the $20,500 instead of the full $35k.
