Anyone else notice Progressive can’t figure out how to insure a Solterra

I was on chat with Progressive trying to get a quote for a Solterra since I’m planning to buy one tomorrow.

They told me it’ll take at least 4 days to get it added to their system. Not sure if I believe them, or if that’s just too ridiculous to be true.

Like, do they not update their database when new cars are released?

And yeah… they asked me if it was a V6 or V8. I couldn’t make this up.

That last line got me :joy:

Right?? Like what year is it haha

Try telling them it’s a Toyota Solterra instead lol

Maybe they’ve got it listed as the Toyota bZ4X?

Progressive always gives me quotes double what anyone else does. Don’t get the hype around them.

Just wait until you actually need them after an accident… that’s when the real fun starts.

I checked on my Progressive account—same thing. It couldn’t pull up the Solterra. Asked me if it’s a hearse, dune buggy, snow plow, carries 12+ people, or a commercial truck.

Said no to all, still couldn’t get a quote. They don’t even list it under Subaru models, only as ‘Other’.

Guess it’s cause it’s a low volume car. Plus, since it’s built in Japan, no tax credit either.

My buddy had one of the first WRXs in AZ years back (worked at a dealership). His insurance called it a Justy the first month. Rate shot up when they figured it out.

Why didn’t they just call it an Impreza?

@Wren
No idea, didn’t even think to ask at the time. Just thought it was cool seeing one.

Yeah, rates jump. We’ve got three Subarus and one is a WRX. My son just got his license… our insurance shot up like 50 percent.

Was it an actual person on chat or just some bot?

Pretty sure it was a person. Their replies seemed more natural than a bot. Even gave them the VIN, still couldn’t handle it.

Might be worth checking with Geico or USAA if you’ve got any family that served. Progressive sounds like a mess.

I’m with AAA—not the cheapest, but they’ve always come through when something goes wrong.

Honestly just hit up an independent insurance agent. Let them deal with the headache.

Update: I’m done with Progressive. Moving on.

The funny part is it’s called Progressive and they’re asking if it’s a V6 or V8

Shouldn’t have bought that car in the first place.
