My wiper fluid light has been on for months even though the reservoir is full. Any tips on how to fix it?
Did you use Rain-X windshield washer fluid recently? It’s known to mess up the sensor. If that’s not the case, the sensor itself is pretty cheap, around 20 bucks.

Same thing happened to me! 2018 Forester, used Rain-X, and the light stayed on forever.
Then one day, I had to hit the brakes hard and somehow, that fixed the issue.
@Thanos
Lol, same here! Bumps or sudden stops seem to reset it. Happens a lot when I’m on long road trips. Altitude changes seem to affect it too, like when I went over the Grapevine last weekend.

That’s so annoying since I love using Rain-X. Thanks for the heads-up! Do you recommend any alternatives?

Yeah, I’ve been using Rain-X. Thanks for pointing that out!

Try adding a bit of white vinegar mixed with water into the reservoir. Use the washer fluid a lot to cycle a few gallons through.
@Bao
I’ll give this a shot. If it doesn’t work, I guess I’ll just hit it a few times and then unplug it. Frustrating!

Oh no, I’ve been using Rain-X too. No issues yet, but now I’m worried…

Mine stopped working after years of barely using the fluid. I’m not sure what I topped it off with, but I might try the vinegar trick just in case. Cheap and easy fix.

It doesn’t ruin the sensor, but you just need something else to clean out the gunk. Trust me
Honestly, I’d just unplug the sensor and be done with it.

That seems like the best option.
Edit: I unplugged it, and it’s working fine now.

Exactly. Rain-X is too good to give up, and none of my other cars have had a sensor for this anyway.
@Bay
Get an older Forester (like 09-13). No sensor to worry about, but it does come with a pointless dipstick on the cap that always says full!
Signed, a useless dipstick
I just left mine unplugged.

It’s on the driver’s side near the fog light. Remove a few plastic screws, and you’ll see it attached to the reservoir. Mine is just hanging loose now .
@Isle
Thanks! I’ll take a look, though I’m on the other side of the world, so my driver’s side might be different.
Mine went bad recently too. The dealership had to replace the whole reservoir and sensor.
