Can I cancel my Toyota warranty?

I just bought a GR86, put $5k down, and told them I didn’t want the warranty. They showed me a price of $37k and made it sound like that was before the downpayment. But when I got my paperwork a week later, the final price was $42k because they added the 120,000-mile or 10-year warranty I said no to. It’s probably my fault for not reading the contract well enough, but is there any way I can cancel this? I’ve tried calling the finance manager but keep getting voicemail with no response so far.

Check the warranty paperwork they gave you. It should have an email or a physical address. If you cancel within 30 days, you usually get a full refund; after that, it’s prorated. They’ll email you a form to take to the dealer to get it processed.

I didn’t have any issues when I showed up with the paper. You have to go through the process to get your money back, probably about 5k.

Yep, you have 30 days to cancel it. It’s easy if you just go in person.

How long have you had the car? You might be able to return it depending on your state’s ‘Car Buyer’ rights or what the contract says.

About 2 weeks.

I canceled mine right after buying a Camry. I decided I didn’t need it. In the paperwork you got, there should be info on where to call for the warranty. They told me to contact the dealer at first but then gave me an address and fax number. I followed their instructions, and it worked out.

What exactly did you write? I just bought a Corolla hybrid and I’m thinking about canceling the extended warranty too.

The TFS guy told me to write something like this:

I, [name], would like to cancel my VSA.

Agreement Number: [agreement number]
Current Mileage: [current mileage]

[signature]

[Name] | [date]

Originally, they wanted me to go to the dealer, but it was an hour and a half away for me. So I asked about mailing it, and they gave me an address and fax number. Your payments won’t change, but the loan end date will be adjusted based on the refund amount. Maybe it’s worth it to you, maybe not.

Do you know the email address to send it to the warranty company?

I need the address or fax number. The dealership didn’t give me a readable copy of my VSA contract.

I only own Toyotas, and if it’s Toyota’s factory coverage, it might save you money in the long run. Mine saved me $8300 after my 3-year/36k warranty ended. But if you don’t use Toyota for service and go to cheaper places, it’s probably not worth it.

The problem is I plan on modding the car, and Toyota said the warranty will only cover stock parts. So I didn’t think I needed it, but they added it anyway.

They told me the warranty would cover repairs unless the mods caused the issue.

That’s right. I work at Toyota, and I’ve got a Tacoma with over $70k in mods, including a supercharger, and I’ve used the warranty without problems.

I was overcharged for an extended warranty—almost 70% more. Can I cancel and get it from someone else?

Yes. Just make sure to read the fine print. Factory warranties usually cover most parts unless they’re listed as exceptions. But third-party warranties often only cover specific parts, so if it’s not listed, you’ll pay for repairs.

My sister bought the new 2025 Camry XSE with warranties. It was financed through Toyota. How does she cancel them?

Your mods won’t be covered. I mean, if you’re tuning the ECM, sure. But things like the brake actuator, window regulators, etc., might be covered. What are you planning to mod?
