Can I cancel my Toyota warranty?

I only own Toyotas, and if it’s Toyota’s factory coverage, it might save you money in the long run. Mine saved me $8300 after my 3-year/36k warranty ended. But if you don’t use Toyota for service and go to cheaper places, it’s probably not worth it.

The problem is I plan on modding the car, and Toyota said the warranty will only cover stock parts. So I didn’t think I needed it, but they added it anyway.

Your mods won’t be covered. I mean, if you’re tuning the ECM, sure. But things like the brake actuator, window regulators, etc., might be covered. What are you planning to mod?

Right now, I’m looking at basic stuff like a catback, coilovers, better brakes, and rims. Later, I’ll probably go for a turbo and maybe some engine upgrades. I think the stock parts can handle up to 400-420hp, which is plenty for me.

You can cancel within 30 days for a full refund. After that, you’ll get less back. Check your warranty paperwork.

I just bought a GR86, put $5k down, and told them I didn’t want the warranty. They showed me a price of $37k and made it sound like that was before the downpayment. But when I got my paperwork a week later, the final price was $42k because they added the 120,000-mile or 10-year warranty I said no to. It’s probably my fault for not reading the contract well enough, but is there any way I can cancel this? I’ve tried calling the finance manager but keep getting voicemail with no response so far.

They did the same thing to me. I put $5k down, said no to warranties, and weeks later, I got paperwork with $4k of warranties added. It feels wrong that they do this after we say no.

It’s illegal, but hard to prove since you signed the contracts. It’s shady, and the finance managers who do this should be held accountable.

They tricked me too. My Camry was listed as $47k on the papers. It’s frustrating.

Same thing happened with my Prius. I went back after a few weeks and got a refund. It took three trips to the dealer, but it was worth it.

You have 30 days to cancel. If they won’t do it, the warranty contract tells you how to do it yourself. Don’t wait.

Call Toyota corporate within 30 days and tell them this was done without your agreement. Some dealers do this to take advantage.

Just a reminder: If you sign a contract agreeing to buy something, it’s hard to argue that you didn’t agree. The best option is to cancel and get a refund.

You can go back and have them cancel the warranty, which should lower your monthly payment. It’s a sneaky thing for them to do.

Is there a 30-day limit? I was told it’s too late for a full refund, and it will only shorten the loan term, not lower payments. I’ve had my Camry for 3 months.

Three months might be too late. I thought you had just bought it. You’ll probably get a partial refund.

This happened to me too, but I didn’t want to deal with the dealer. You can contact Toyota directly if you don’t want to talk to the dealership. They sent me to a website where you log in with your VIN to cancel. I canceled a prepaid plan and service agreement for $5300.

Sorry the dealership did that, but glad you were able to cancel. Thanks for the info. I’m going to call Toyota first thing on Monday.

How did it go? I’m five hours from my dealer and don’t want to drive all that way.

It worked out. You can go to https://tmisvpp.com/cancelrequest.html to cancel. If you prefer, you can call Toyota Financial Services for help.

I canceled my GAP insurance for a $1000 refund after switching to an insurance carrier that offers loan payoff coverage.

Nice! I got my cancellation confirmed, too. My payment amount is the same, but my loan term is shorter now.

Old post, but how did it go? I’m in the same situation. They charged me almost $8k.

Go to the dealership and cancel it. I did mine just a couple of weeks ago. You have 30 days to cancel.
