Mine showed the same behavior. I had to force connect every time and sometimes that didn’t work. Upgraded from a Pixel 6 to a Pixel 9 and the issue went away.

I have the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’d really hope that isn’t the problem.
When you remote start, your phone isn’t close enough to connect automatically, so it times out. When you get to your car and get in, restart the car and it will connect again. This works with Android Auto.
It only doesn’t connect when I remote start. It’s really annoying.
It only happens when you disconnect Bluetooth on the phone or press ‘don’t allow’ when the car asks the phone to connect.
It’s the remote start. When I enter and turn on the car myself, it works perfectly fine.
Mine is 50/50. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s definitely a flaw that needs an update to fix.
These head units and instrument panels seem to be designed by committee. Basic functions like radio tuning, trip odometer, radio balance, and bass/treble adjustments are several layers deep. Nothing is intuitive.

I’m not sure what you mean, to be honest. Personally, I love the design. It’s a mix of old-school buttons and smooth touch technology.

I have an XSE with a 12.3-inch screen. There’s only one knob for power/volume. Everything else is buried in two to three menus deep. Making adjustments or accessing a screen is difficult. I’m tech-savvy, but my spouse isn’t, and she wouldn’t know how to change the station.
Mine connects automatically?
Yeah, it’s really annoying.
Looking through the comments, it seems like I’m having the same issue as many people here. For me, it connects, then during the drive, it disconnects and sometimes reconnects. Sometimes it just doesn’t. I noticed that when I keep the phone unlocked on the home screen or have a random app open and the phone on the charging mat, I rarely have problems with CarPlay. It’s super odd. I hope everyone with this issue talks to Toyota so they can see a pattern. Mine is only a month old, and I’ll definitely mention it when I get the oil changed.
Mine does it every time when I remote start.
Yeah. It was a pain at first. I’m used to it now.
I don’t, it’s automatic for me as long as my Bluetooth is on.
It’s just outdated CarPlay, to be honest. Bluetooth dongles do a better job of connecting automatically.
The only real fix is to buy an aftermarket one that works better. The one built into the car is probably a few years behind for some reason.

My $35 Amazon dongle works better in my 23 Camry hybrid (last gen infotainment) than my wife’s 24 Corolla (latest gen infotainment).

They just unfortunately don’t last long due to poor wiring and summer heat.
No, just you. Mine works fine.
