ES Interior Before Lexus Hired Tesla Designers

ES (1989-2025) RIP

Looks high quality and expensive.

Who would want that in their car?

Exactly… the new refresh doesn’t scream “Lexus” luxury to me.

No, it screams CHEAP.

@Vesper
It’s soulless and just makes it feel like an appliance.

The ones from the early 2000s to 2010s were even better than that. Real wood and quality materials everywhere with no awkwardly attached tablet screens.

Amen. Just a little screen in-between a bunch of buttons with the most outdated nav system known to man.

The way it should be.

Agreed, I don’t really get the outrage here. Lexus from the past decade had odd ergonomics and over-styled but decent quality interiors. The new direction isn’t great, but at least they’re moving on from their obnoxiously over-styled interiors and exteriors.

I own an '02 ES300 and I love mine. I hope to hold on to it for as long as I can.

My ES330 has the best interior I’ve seen in a car.

You mean before they decided it was more important to appeal to the Chinese market.

It’s ruining many luxury brands. The new BMW X3 is a major downgrade of the interior to cater to the Chinese market.

@Smith
Yep, the rest of the world is in trouble design-wise since manufacturers are aiming to please the Chinese market now.

The Chinese market is the largest car market, so companies need to cater to them.

Lexus had a touchscreen entertainment and navigation system 5 years before the first iPhone was released. Let that settle in…

Nah, more like before Lexus completely sold out to the Chinese car market.

That’s what I’m saying, they designed the ES for the Chinese market. It’s not like people outside China are going to buy the ES anyway.

The Chinese market is the largest car market, so companies need to cater to them, but also other markets.

They going to sell us a cheap minimal interior and say this is the future of luxury. Have nothing and be happy.

This is exactly my thought!
