How often do you all change your air filter?

Curious about how often everyone changes their air filter. I have heard different things and not sure what’s best.

Your vehicle’s manual might have a recommendation. I’ve heard to check it every 10,000 miles, but that feels too often for me. I usually replace mine around every 30,000 miles (2013 Camry).

Depends on how dirty it gets. I check mine every time I do an oil change and swap it out if it looks bad.

I do the cabin air filter once a year and the engine filter every 2-3 years. They’re cheap and easy to do yourself.

It’s crazy how much dealerships charge for changing filters. It’s literally the easiest job you can do on a car. Anyone can do it, especially with YouTube showing you how.

I swear it’s their biggest scam. I’m convinced they have some dirty old filter they keep to show people just to upsell the service. It’s probably not even from your car!

Some definitely do that. I once brought my wife’s car in and the filter they showed me was way too big and looked like it had been in a leaf pile. No way it was ours!

I always replace my own cabin filters, but one time the dealer tried to charge me $58 for a new one. The filter they showed was filthy, but I’d just replaced mine two months before. I had written the date on mine, so I knew they were lying. Raised a fuss and ended up getting the oil change free too. Never going back there!

Dealers are just not the place for maintenance unless you’re under warranty. Glad you called them out! But yeah, oil changes are so easy, why not just do it yourself?

At our dealer, we charge $5 to change it. Not many places like that anymore though.

Lucky! Around me, they charge at least $40, and that’s before they even get to the overpriced filters.

They try to charge $80 where I am. How much is the filter at your place?

Most cabin filters are about $25 and engine ones are around $22-$30. We’re a small family-owned dealer and try to keep prices fair.

You can get two cabin filters on Amazon for $15. It takes just two minutes to swap out.

Why charge anything? It takes two minutes. And those dealer filters are overpriced! I get better quality ones online for much cheaper.

It’s like cooking—sure, you can do it yourself, but you’re paying for the convenience at a business. But I get it, if you can do it yourself, why not?

$50 for a cabin filter swap… my partner just paid it. Such a rip-off.

I’ve had my 2007 Camry since 2006 and didn’t even know about cabin filters until 2017. Oops.

If your car smells a little moldy, it might be time for a change.

Toyota has a known issue with AC systems where water builds up, leading to mold. Especially if you use the recirculation feature.
