Hi, I was told by a dealer that the underside of Toyota hybrids or PHEV cars (like my RAV4) can’t be rustproofed conventionally and that I’d need to use a rustproofing module. However, I’ve seen many sources online saying those modules are a scam. Is this true?
Modules are a total scam.

So how did you rustproof your vehicle?

Take it to a reputable company. They’ll cover up the HV connections before spraying.
Yeah, the modules are just $800 worth of snake oil.

Our rustproofing guy handles hybrids all the time. Most of the underside is covered by plastic shielding anyway, so not much is needed.
Like everyone’s saying, the modules are BS. Just find a shop that does Fluid Film, Krown, or WoolWax and have them rustproof your car.
My dealership can undercoat any hybrid. They just avoid the high-voltage wires (they’re bright orange). Customers come back yearly for checkups and resprays.

How much does that cost, and where are you located?
@Weston
I’m in Nova Scotia, Canada, and it costs $799 for a 10-year undercoating at a place called Perma-Shine in Halifax.
I talked to Toyota Canada, and they told me that conventional rustproofing sprays would void any warranty on wiring repairs. They said the rustproofing makes it hard to identify wires, which could be dangerous for technicians.
@LUCKY
That only applies to rubberized coatings. Those can obscure wire colors. Krown, Fluid Film, or WoolWax won’t cause that issue or void the warranty.

So what rustproofing did you end up using?

I use Fluid Film. It’s a temporary rust inhibitor and shouldn’t affect the warranty.

That’s what I do too. Much cheaper as well.

Toyota claims their cars are factory rust-proofed, but that doesn’t make me feel better living in eastern Canada.

New Brunswick here, same worries!
Are we still in 1978? Who’s rustproofing their car these days?

Well, more like undercoating now.
