I wasn’t clear before. The battery pack got stolen…
Wow, I’ve never seen this in Canada… that’s terrible

Yeah, it really upsets me. I love this car. I just hope insurance covers most of the damage
Looks like this is the new issue with hybrid or electric cars

Seems like it

Haha
That’s crazy. A 1kw battery isn’t even that valuable. It needs special connections to be useful without serious modifications. I can’t say I’ve heard about hybrid battery thefts often

The catalytic converter got stolen from our car. I doubt they made much from it. It cost me £1200 to replace it.
Haven’t heard of this happening in the UK. Usually, thieves go for the catalytic converters here

They target Smarts here for that reason. There’s a decent amount of platinum in them.
@Rio
They can remove those quickly and the cash from the rhodium, palladium, and platinum is quick for them. The police say they often go after hybrids because those parts fetch more cash. They usually stick to the same make and model, so they know how to take it off fast. If you can’t park in a locked garage, they recommend using cameras. It won’t stop the theft, but it might catch them in the act, giving a better chance to catch them.
I also own a CHR (2020 model) and live in Rome. When I got it 4 years back, the dealer mentioned this was a thing.
They steal batteries to sell to others who had theirs taken. They create the demand and supply the offer. Wild stuff
Is the battery in the CHR under the seat?

Yep. Hybrid batteries.

Thanks. I always thought it was in the trunk.
They must be selling those as replacements since the chemicals in those little nickel battery packs aren’t worth much. These people are awful, and the local police don’t help much

It’s tough to catch them. The job takes around 10 minutes, and once they’re in, they disappear. The battery pack weighs about 40kg, so it’s manageable. The cutting part makes noise, but it only takes about 20 seconds. If someone spots them and calls the police, they’re gone by the time the call ends.
@Rio
It’s typical organized crime. Warehouses, brokers, mechanics, all of it. Just like the old days when they looted catalytic converters. The crime business is adapting.
I haven’t seen this happening in Romania. Wow
