Is Toyota really sharing driving data with insurance companies or just a rumor?

If you drive like me (not great), don’t let them track you. Your rates will go up fast. Took me a while to figure out why mine jumped.

And if your sensors are dirty, your lane departure warning will keep going off… and yeah, Progressive didn’t like that either. Wonder if I can get them to cover sensor recalibration.

Exactly, 100%.

Glad I live in California where this is illegal :joy:

It still happens.

Not if they want to avoid lawsuits. California has had strict privacy laws for years, and it’s not worth the risk.

@Parrish
Subaru reported my data to State Farm last year, and my rates jumped $40 a month.

Yeah, I am.

You should report that to the insurance commissioner. You might get some money out of it.

@Parrish
I’m in California too, and all this tracking was turned on by default in my car. I had to download the app and manually disable it.

Seriously, report it. If they’re breaking privacy laws, you could get a payout.

USAA would kill my rates if they saw how I drive my GR Corolla… No thanks. 15 years of driving, no accidents, two tickets (last one was five years ago). I don’t need my car snitching on me.

Yeah, no thanks. Don’t need them seeing me hit 1.0g in the mountains at 2 AM.

One ticket for going 3 km over the limit. One accident (not my fault). And now they want to track me? No way.

It’s something you have to sign up for.

Actually, it’s something you have to opt out of.

Yeah, when I got my Corolla, the tracking was turned on by default. If you don’t download the app and register your car, you won’t even know you have to disable it.

@LisaLovesToyota
Wait, some models make you disable it through the app? Mine just had a button in the settings. That’s messed up if true.
