My Prius might be getting broken into… or maybe just finally breaking down?

I’ve barely had any problems with my 2nd gen. Got it at 166,000 miles. I’m the second person to own it. The hybrid battery was replaced at 159,000. It’s wild to think I’ve already done over 30,000 miles in just 14 months.

I’ve only changed the oil and added LED headlights.

Out of all the 70 or so cars I’ve owned, this one’s been the best by far.

I always recommend the 2nd gen Prius.

That’s why I always leave something slightly off on my cars. If they’re too perfect, strange stuff starts happening. Haha

I had a similar story actually…

Reminds me of my 2010 Escape Hybrid — Ford used Toyota’s transmission tech on that model. The drivetrain was super reliable, but everything else just started falling apart. My 2009 Prius has over 270,000 miles and is still going strong.

I joke and call it my ‘Shitbox Prius’ but honestly, it’s the most dependable car I’ve had. If the engine or hybrid battery gave out tomorrow, I’d fix it rather than get rid of it.

Mine needed some front suspension stuff around 220,000 miles — shocks, struts, wheel bearings. Still made it to 320,000 though with no major trouble.

Which suspension parts did you go with?

@Ziv
I used Monroe strut assemblies and Moog wheel bearings from Rock Auto. Worked out fine.

Paid about $65 each for the struts and $85 for each bearing.

I used Monroe parts on a CR-V I was flipping. Drove it for 2,000 miles and they never really settled — still bouncy and squeaky when I sold it.

@Ziv
Yeah… doesn’t surprise me honestly.

If the Dr. Prius app says my battery’s at 65%, is that okay? Planning to drive 30,000 miles this year in my 2008.

65% isn’t bad at all. For a car that age, that’s still in decent shape. If it drops below 40%, that’s when things start going downhill fast. You might still get a few years out of it.

Which scanner are you using?

Dr. Prius app with a Panlong code reader.

Sounds like it’s just getting broken in.

How have you owned 70 cars? What are you doing with them?

I buy, sell, and sometimes rebuild them.

Ah alright, that clears it up.

This forum hates people who mess with their headlights… especially those bright LEDs.

Wish I could fail your car at the annual safety check.
