Raptor lights won’t turn on… anyone else run into this?

Just picked up a 2020 4Runner that already had raptor lights installed, but they’re not turning on at all—whether I start the car or flip through the light settings. I’m not too handy with this stuff, so I’m wondering if it might be a fuse issue or something else simple. Anyone seen this before?

Your ride’s trying to tell you something.

This is clearly a sign from the 4Runner gods.

Mine stopped working after about 7 months. I took them off and honestly don’t think I’ll bother with them again—not sure I liked how they looked.

Half this forum is gonna tell you to rip them out, lol.

But seriously—it could be something simple like a blown fuse or a loose connection. I had mine hooked straight to the battery terminals. Also check if the ground wire is still connected.

It’s me. I’m the forum.

Nope, I’m the forum.

Wait… wrong one.

Genuine question: why do people dislike raptor lights so much?

Honestly? They’re meant for wide vehicles—like over 80 inches wide. That’s why the F-150 Raptor has them. It’s a legal thing, not a style thing.

4Runners and Tacomas are way narrower, so they don’t need them. But hey, some folks like the look.

Edit: The Ranger Raptor doesn’t even have them. Maybe we should just call them ‘F-150 Raptor lights.’

@irmah
Honestly, RAV4 lights might fit the vibe of this forum better :joy:

RAV4 with raptor lights and a ladder? That guy is clearly the king of the local 4x4 trail scene.

@irmah
Call them ‘chonky truck lights’ and move on. Wild that folks pay extra for something that’s just a legal requirement on bigger rigs.

@irmah
Exactly. They’re only required on trucks as wide as the Raptor. It’s not for style, just DOT compliance.

Yep, exactly what I meant.

They’re cheap, kinda tacky, and don’t really do anything. Just guessing, though :joy:

Yup, and they’re not even required on one of the skinniest off-roaders out there.

Mine are actually kinda useful—amber ones help me find my keys at night without flipping on the headlights.

Let me guess—previous owner spliced them in? Classic.

Could be a lot of things: fuse, wiring, or the lights themselves. I’ve seen tons of 4Runners with half their lights burned out.

Might be a good excuse to pick up a multimeter and start learning some basic electrical stuff—or just pull them off.

Honestly a great time to ditch them.

For context: the amber lights on the Raptor are legally required because it’s over 80 inches wide. Big trucks need them for visibility.

You’ve got a 4Runner—not a massive F-150. Never got why folks add them to skinny SUVs.
