Thinking about lifting my Prius… any advice?

I’m thinking of lifting my Prius by 1 or 2 inches and found a kit online. Has anyone done this themselves? Is it doable at home, or should I just take it to a shop? I’d love to hear your experiences if you’ve tried this. The kit I found is from Prius Offroad.

I got a 2024 Prius, ordered the Prius Offroad kit, and had the dealership install it. No matter where you get it done, you’ll need to get an alignment afterward. I live in Montana and lifted mine for snow clearance. For winter, I switched to 17-inch wheels with Blizzak tires. I love it—drives great!

I’d love to see how it looks! Have you noticed any MPG changes, especially after the lift?

No MPG loss because of the lift itself. The snow tires cause a 5-10 MPG drop in cold weather, though. Running the heater and heated seats also drains the battery faster, so the engine runs more often.

@Devi
That’s awesome! Looks like you’ve got so much room now.

@Devi
The heated seats use barely any power—like 50 watts compared to the 18,000 watts the car needs on the highway. They don’t really affect MPG much, but running the engine for heat definitely does.

@Devi
I wish I had thought of this back when I lived in Montana! Even just an inch would’ve helped with snow. Still, I never actually got stuck.

@Devi
How much did you end up paying for the kit and installation? Can you share the link to the kit?

The kit cost what it shows on Prius Offroad’s website, and the install plus alignment was about $800. I didn’t get the heavy-duty springs since I’m not adding extra weight for overlanding. Here’s the link: GEN 5 (2023-2024) Prius

@Devi
Blizzaks are the go-to winter tires here in Minnesota!

I lifted my Prius V with a kit from Prius Offroad and have zero complaints. Love it!

Did you mean to say ‘kit’? You wrote ‘key.’

Did it affect your fuel economy?

Nope.

I wonder why that’s the case. Normally, lowering a car improves MPG.

@Cale
Interesting point. Usually, aerodynamics play a role, but with Priuses, it might be minimal.

This video was super helpful when I did mine! I’ve got a lot of tools and years of experience working on cars, though. It wasn’t too hard for me, but it did take a few hours.

I’ve got a kit on the way from Prius Offroad. Went for the heavy-duty springs for more weight capacity.
