I’m thinking of getting a 2025 Outback Wilderness and wanted to hear your thoughts. I currently drive an Impreza but need something bigger for my family. Subaru’s safety features are a big plus for me, and I’m also worried about car theft where I live. Other brands seem to be targeted more, so I’m hesitant.
Would love to hear the good and bad about this model before I make a decision.
TLDR: Thinking about upgrading to the Outback Wilderness 2025… should I go for it?
I got one recently and have put 700 miles on it so far. It’s got decent midrange power but feels a little slow off the line. The ride is super smooth and quiet, and it gives you the space of an SUV while still driving like a car. For the price, it packs in a lot of features that Toyota would charge way more for. No regrets here.

I’ve always had Toyotas, but I ended up getting a 2025 Outback Wilderness because it felt like a better deal and a nicer drive than the new 4Runner. Also, it was about $10k cheaper. I was surprised, but I definitely don’t regret it!

Wait, sluggish on takeoff? The torque on this thing is great. It’s got the Ascent’s bigger engine, so if yours feels slow, maybe something’s off.

I’ve been driving a 2023 OBW, and there’s a small delay when you floor it because the turbo needs a sec to spool up. I’m guessing that’s what they’re talking about. It’s just how turbo engines work. Once warmed up, it’s actually pretty quick.
We got a 2022 model back in 2021, and it’s been great. A few issues though—sometimes the GPS picks longer routes for no reason, the driver’s window randomly leaks, and the battery died at 50k miles, which was expensive to replace. Also, the gas mileage isn’t as good as other Outback models.
That said, it’s been one of the best cars we’ve owned, and we’ll probably get another one when it’s time to replace this one.
When I bought mine, the dealer made me sign a paper saying they weren’t responsible for any ‘extra features’ like that. I asked what it meant, and they said no flux capacitors or rocket engines. Thought it was pretty funny.
