It’s not Toyota; it’s the dealerships and their software.

Do they collect info on hard stops or speed?

Not generally, but the car can. Usually, they just track miles for service purposes.

Read up on Insure Connect.

That’s opt-in and not available on every car.

I have two 2021 Toyotas and didn’t know about it until it was in the news. Didn’t knowingly opt-in.

It’s there, but you’d need to look into it more. Tinfoil hats off, folks!

I have a 2022 Corolla Cross. Do you think it still tracks me? No fancy add-ons.

Without a modem, probably not.

Good to know, thanks!

It’s more about the data from your registration and renewals than the car itself.

Dealerships don’t have the tech for this; it’s Toyota pushing the enrollments.

Bro, dealers use all kinds of non-Toyota software.

Doesn’t matter to me… I’m already with Toyota insurance. They’re just selling it to themselves, lol.

Just found out that newer Toyotas are tracking your data and sharing it with insurance companies, which might affect your rates. It’s similar to what GM has been doing. If you don’t like it, you can opt out of these services.

Pretty sure Canada has strict privacy laws that stop this.

California too… telematics can’t be used in pricing here.

I’m in CA and my Toyota app had all settings on by default.

You should report that to the Insurance Commissioner.

Here’s a link to report this to the FTC: FTC Fraud Report and another link for complaints related to financial institutions: CFPB Complaint

Can you share a link to where you got this info?

From the Toyota app under “Insure Connect.” It says it’s a partnership with insurers to offer personalized rates based on your driving.

Seems to be a US thing. In Canada, they say they don’t share data.

Toyota isn’t mentioned in that article.

You might still want to request your data report just in case, especially if you use any tracking apps.

One more reason to keep my 2007 on the road.

Does this tracking only happen if you pay for their service?
