What’s the deal with 15mm spacers on a lowered car?

Does it handle better now? I bet with some good summer tires, you could even keep up with sportier cars on exit ramps. Has anyone made a front strut brace yet?

It already handled really well in stock form. I’ve owned some BMW models before, and it feels even nicer lowered with a wider footprint. There are sway bars I’ve thought about, but I’m not sure if a brace would help much since the towers are already close to the firewall.

So does lowering it really help with MPG? I think the Prius looks great as is, but you made it look slick!

I drive it like it’s meant to be driven, so it’s hard to tell. It might add a little, but I still get good MPG in heavy traffic.

Looks nice! What did you use to lower it?

RS-R T586D springs. They offer a mild drop, which I think looks good without being too extreme.

How long have those been on? Are they settled in now?

@Darian
Almost a year, so you know what to expect now.

Did you pick a specific spacer brand? Any rubbing issues?

Just some basic bolt-on hubcentric aluminum spacers. I didn’t want to mess with the hubs but will when I need new wheel bearings.

Thanks for the info! Your fit looks great. I really don’t like these 195 tires. I think I’ll go with 215/55 when I upgrade to new 17’s. I already had one blowout, and it was a pain to replace.

These tires are the worst I’ve dealt with in 20 years! I even had a blowout on the front right.

@Alex_1
I see you have some Toyo tires. When my tire blew, Toyota didn’t even have the Bridgestones in stock. These tires are noisy and handle poorly!

Yeah, they really messed up with that tire choice.

Oh, and no rubbing at all with these 15mm spacers and stock 17’s. I checked all the dips and driveways and had no issues.

Did you get touch-up paint for that front bumper?

Still clears standard parking stops and curbs just fine.

@Kerry
I live in a hilly area near San Francisco, and believe me, Oakland and SF have some of the worst roads. But it handles fine everywhere, even my steep driveway.

Good luck with that then!

My gen2 struggles with speed bumps and potholes here. It’s surprising yours manages so well with less clearance.
