These trucks are amazing! I’d take one over a Tacoma any day… probably cheaper too? Why aren’t they available in the US?
Lots of wrong info here. From what I know… the Hilux doesn’t meet US emissions standards because it’s too light to qualify for certain exemptions.

So dumb… emissions rules are tougher on smaller vehicles and super strict for motorcycles too.

It’s tied to farming. The rules were made to protect small family farms from getting hit too hard.

Meanwhile, big farms abuse workers and don’t pay overtime. Small farms don’t have it much better and use unpaid labor whenever possible.

Motorcycles are getting treated like cigarettes… stricter rules to discourage their use. I get it, but it feels unfair.

You’d think the rich would support a steady supply of organ donors.

Payload rules are messed up too. Industry lobbies really screwed up emissions incentives.
The Tacoma is basically the US version of the Hilux. Plus, any light truck made outside the US has to deal with a 25% import tax.

I think it’s more about forced driving habits. Lots of people would prefer smaller trucks like those in Japan. Most truck owners aren’t hauling heavy loads anyway. Big companies don’t want you realizing that smaller trucks are a good option, especially with better fuel economy.

Axios did a study on pickup truck use. It’s wild how few people use pickups for their intended purpose. For the F-150, 32% rarely use the bed, and 63% don’t tow anything. Meanwhile, these bigger trucks are causing more pedestrian deaths, which have gone up by 77% in the last decade.

No shock there. A lot of pickup drivers act like jerks on the road, and those huge trucks are hard to control. I wanted a Tacoma when I moved to a rural area, but even that felt way too big.

The front blind spots are crazy. Modern pickups are built for looks, not safety, and those big fronts make it hard to see what’s right in front of you.

I used to drive a big work truck and a van for deliveries. I always preferred the van because I could actually see the road.

I upgraded to a newer 4Runner, and it took some getting used to. The front end feels higher, and it’s longer. If I could buy a smaller, modern version of a 90’s 4Runner, that’d be perfect.

How do you like the 4Runner? I drive a Colorado but have always wanted one.

I love it, but it’s outdated. Bad gas mileage, no modern tech, but it’s super reliable and comfortable. Just wish it had CarPlay and a heated steering wheel.
Same with my 05 Tacoma… feels old but I still love it.

The F-150 is the top-selling vehicle, not just among trucks.

77% increase is HUGE.
