Can someone explain why the Toyota Land Cruiser is considered so good? I always hear about its reliability. It seems like the diesel and petrol engines can run for hundreds of thousands of miles, and I’ve heard they don’t rust much either. Any long-term owners or someone with knowledge care to explain?

They rust a lot. Not sure where you heard otherwise.

I’ve seen some in colder climates with minimal rust.

In cold, wet places, the rear hatch rusts really badly because water gets trapped between the hatch and glass.

I’ve seen European models with 300k km and barely any rust, but maybe that’s just the specific cars I’ve seen.
