Hilux is better than Tacoma any day. Not sure about the Fortuner though.

Why do you think that? What’s the difference?

Hilux is built tougher for off-road and rough conditions. It’s made for markets where the roads are bad and off-roading is part of daily life. Tacoma is more built for recreation. Plus, the Hilux has indestructible diesel engines.

Wish Toyota would bring their diesels here. Thinking of swapping one into my Jeep.

US has bigger trucks because we have a bigger country and bigger people. Hilux wouldn’t sell like the Tacoma does.

Toyota can’t get them to pass emissions here without detuning them too much. Nobody would want it.

Fair point, but still a bummer.

With all the issues Cummins had with emissions, it’s no wonder other companies are hesitant.

Time to fight for more reasonable emissions laws. Europe seems to have it easier.

Europe handles it differently by taxing anything with power heavily. Our market is too different; too many big trucks used as daily drivers.

Yeah, gas is super expensive there, too.

Hilux diesels are way underpowered compared to what we’re used to here. Everyone says they want them, but they’d feel super slow.

Toyota diesels aren’t great. Be glad we don’t have them here.

I’ve heard good things about the 1VD engine. Anything specific I should know?

They’re decent but always feel a bit outdated compared to competitors.

I’ve had my Hilux for years, never had a single issue.

Depends on where it’s built. Quality varies a lot with Toyota’s diesels.

My Tacoma has handled Alaska just fine. No complaints about durability.

Actually, Hilux quality can vary a lot depending on where it’s made. Not always better than Tacoma.

No way, they’re the same thing. I’ve driven both in different countries. It’s not that different.

Toyota builds better in Japan than in Argentina, for example.

Thailand-built Hilux is way better than the Argentinian ones.

They might just market it as a luxury vehicle eventually like Honda did, making space for something new underneath.

In Brazil, the Hilux is super expensive. I’ll stick with my cheaper Tacoma.

You’re probably talking local currency. The US prices aren’t that different.

Are you sure you’re not mixing up currencies? $300k seems way off.
